Mallorca, the sun-drenched island in the Mediterranean, known for its arid, dusty landscapes in the south, has become the stage for a new project by Breimann & Cie. Our mission: to design the outdoor spaces of a luxury hotel. The goal is to transform hot, dry areas into vibrant, shaded oases—patios that enchant and provide relaxation.
The design draws on the traditions of Mediterranean garden art, incorporating cooling water features and plants that symbolize life and eternal greenery. Palms, bird-of-paradise flowers, and elephant ears take center stage alongside resilient staples like the evergreen Aspidistra and the reliable clivias, reminiscent of their presence in old railway station restaurants. Each plant is carefully chosen—not merely as decoration but as a representation of vitality and harmony.
For us as landscape architects, the unique challenge of hotel projects lies in combining compact spaces with maximum expression. Outdoor areas are an extension of the building, leaving a lasting impression at first glance. The aim is always to create spaces that not only captivate but truly enchant—places of longing that harmonize with the architecture, surroundings, and climate.
This hotel design brings together three decades of expertise, deep knowledge of Mediterranean plants, and profound respect for the history and spirit of Mallorca. In the end, it’s not just about crafting a beautiful picture but creating a living space that tells stories and builds memories.
